Recently, the beloved bovine mascot lost her smile. When The Laughing Cow stopped laughing, everyone wondered what happened. The truth behind that frown has been revealed. Luckily, the solution to bring back the happy starts with the wedge.

The world is tumultuous and people crave a happy, lighthearted, or just bright spot in the day. Even though food is the common connector, the chasm that divides people continues to grow. Debating beliefs, petty arguments, and overall dismay creates a perpetual Eeyore moment.

For over 100 years, The Laughing Cow has had a jovial smile greeting people as they unwrapped that cheese. Recently, that smile has disappeared. Now people finally understand why she is distraught. It is time to understand that a wedge does not have to be that great divide. Instead, it can be a bridge to bring people together.

As Peter McGuinness, CEO of Bel North America explained, “We knew The Laughing Cow was loved, but we didn’t realize just how much until she stopped laughing. Turns out, all those little everyday disagreements really got to her. After all, a wedge is supposed to be something you share, not something that gets between us. She’s laughed for over 100 years and we have to get her to laugh again. We’re going to need everyone’s help.”

How Everyone Can Help The Laughing Cow Laugh Again

On a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Jimmy and Guillermo introduced The Not Laughing Cow to everyone. As the pair debated the dreaded fashion question, are socks and sandals the ultimate faux pas, it highlighted a bigger issue. Everyday disagreements create division. It is time to bring people back together.

Truthfully, people do, and should, have their own opinions. No one is saying that the world is a bunch of lemmings, Stepford Wives, or ideological clones. But, the petty arguments, silly misunderstandings, and arguing for arguing sake is not beneficial. It is time to put the wedge to bed.

The Laughing Cow is asking everyone to expose these wedges for the better. Through the #SpreadTheLaugh challenge, people can vent, expose, and hopefully end the “wedge issues” that are interfering with their laughing, smiling, and happy moments.

Whether it is the person who has to have the closed captions on, the fight over the AC thermostat, or should you put ketchup on a hot dog, these opinions do not have to ruin a relationship. Petty fights do not have to be the ultimate wedge.

Ready to Spread the Laugh?

Anyone can post these “wedge” videos to social media and tag #SpreadTheLaugh. By acknowledging the disagreement, hopefully people can find some commonality and eventually get The Laughing Cow to laugh again.

The idea is a smart move for the classic cheese brand. It promotes engagement, gets people to think differently about the well-known food company, and helps to make the world a little brighter. A little happiness can make a world of difference.

What will your video expose? It might not get a Packers fan to cheer for the Bears, but it might get them to only sing the “Bears Still Suck” song just once a game.
