Whether you love rock and roll or just appreciate a delicious beer, the latest release from Dogfish Head hits all the right notes. Celebrating the 45th anniversary of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts’ iconic releases, “Bad Reputation” and “I Love Rock ‘n Roll,” the Jett Black Lager
Dogfish Head has always found creative, innovative, and fun ways to infuse pop culture into its specialty offerings. While the traditional IPAs have always delighted knowledgeable beer drinkers, the brewery understands that inviting new drinkers to the bar is equally as important.
The brewery’s limited-edition beers often infuse creativity, fun, and innovation into the process. Never afraid to push boundaries, these specialty offerings get people talking and sharing the experience.
The new Jett Black Lager honors Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. While many people know every word of the iconic “I Love Rock ‘n Roll” or “Bad Reputation,” this beer is more than just a nod to a lyric or a blast back to the 80s.
According to said Sam Calagione, Dogfish Head Brewer and Founder, “This collaboration is truly a full-circle moment for me. Joan Jett was my first-ever concert, and you know what they say, ‘you never forget your first. Watching Joan on stage cemented my love of rock ‘n’ roll music. She showed me, and so many other folks, that truly original music is all about creative expression, rebellion and challenging the status quo, all things we at Dogfish Head pride ourselves on when brewing beer.”

How Does Dogfish Head’s Jett Black Lager Challenge the Status Quo?
Dogfish Head’s limited-edition Jett Black Lager drops on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 9 a.m. PST / 12 p.m. EST. The specialty kit is available at Give Them Beer. For $45, the kit includes 4pk/12oz cans of Jett Black Lager, a co-branded pin pack, a studded pleather can cooler, and a heart-shaped guitar pick bottle opener. These items are packaged in a commemorative, co-branded box.
While all the merch keeps the melody going long after the beer is drunk, no one wants to leave these cans unopened. Drinking a great beer is as important as singing along to a favorite song.
The Jett Black Lager might look dark, but the flavor is smooth, easy drinking. Whether people crush one quickly or savor the beverage over an afternoon, the approachable, sessionable beer works with any and every occasion.
First, the beer is black. In this case, the dark color does not denote a heavy, hearty beer. The color is a nod to the band, but that choice should not scare anyone away. Since no one should judge a beer by its color, that dark brew defies expectations and invites people to contemplate the drinking experience.
Overall, the aroma celebrates the sweeter and spicy sides of rock and roll. A little honey, a hint of black pepper, and a brightness from herbs showcases all the sides of a great beverage. Those highs, lows, and in betweens invite people to drink and think.
The flavor is easy drinking at its best. A little toasty with a touch of sweetness makes the beer quite approachable. With a clean finish, it is easy to open another can.
Additionally, it easily pairs with a wide array of foods. From a simple burger to a spicy noodle dish, it is the beverage that cranks up the flavor experience with any pairing.
For anyone near the brewery’s coastal Delaware locations, they can score a 4-pack. Available starting on November 11, the specialty beer will be available while supplies last.
Ready to crank up the volume on beer night? Dogfish Head’s Jett Black Lager is the beer that has everyone putting another 4-pack in the fridge even if they do not know what a jukebox is.
