Road trips are often food trips. With Wyndham Rewards Flavors of the Open Road Candy Collection, the creative and unique food drop brings back favorite memories and encourages people to explore the next tasty travel adventure.

This year marks a historic milestone for Route 66. America’s iconic highway is more than just a means to an end. It is an opportunity to better appreciate the diversity of the country’s landscape. From scenic views to the biggest ball of twine, there is something to discover.

Wyndham Hotels and Resorts can be found up and down that road. Whether people have stayed close to the fun at a Days Inn or it is Ramada’s comfortable space to log off, the travel company has a space that fits every preference, mood, and budget.

Wyndham Rewards Celebrates Route 66

To celebrate the company and its role in making people’s travel memorable across America’s iconic road, Wyndham Rewards dropped Flavors of the Open Road Candy Collection. These six iconic food flavors bring a taste of America. Just like the unexpected moments on a road trip, these flavors deliver on that concept.

As Michael Shiwdin GVP, Integrated Marketing, Loyalty & Digital, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts commented, “The best road trips are defined by the stops you never forget—the barbecue joint you still talk about years later, the diner with the best pie you’ve ever had or the unexpected local specialty you just can’t find anywhere else. That’s the magic of the Mother Road. With over 400 hotels near Route 66, Wyndham and its brands have been helping travelers experience adventure at every turn for decades. Flavors of the Open Road isn’t just a fun way to give travelers a taste of Route 66, it’s about helping them hit the road to make memories of their own.”

Flavors of the Open Road Candy Collection Are Unexpected

On a road trip, people tend to skew sweet or savory. Whether it is a bag of beef jerky or a handful of Twizzlers, the two options tend to stay in the lanes. With the Wyndham Rewards Flavors of the Open Road Candy Collection, the six options cross both food categories.

Inspired by popular cities and stops along Route 66, the candies will have people talking. Some flavors are approachable and others are out of the box.

Route 66 Inspired Candy Flavors

The six candy flavors are: Deep-Dish Pizza (Chicago, Illinois), Pecan Pie (Tulsa, Oklahoma), Smoked Brisket (Amarillo, Texas), Roasted Green Chile (Albuquerque, New Mexico), Prickly Pear Soft Serve (Flagstaff, Arizona), and Root Beer Float (Kingman, Arizona).

The savory candy flavors might get people putting on the brakes, but they should sample the treat before passing judgment. It is better to look beyond the name and appreciate the ingredients that make up that dish.

For example, Roasted Green Chile might sound like an ingredient on a Taco Tuesday menu. But, roasted chiles have both a fiery and sweet flavor. The smoky, savory, spicy, and sweet all go together. If this candy has a little punch of sour, like chamoy, it would capture that New Mexico flavor profile perfectly.

Yes, the sweeter options, like Root Beer Float and Prickly Pear Soft Serve are an easy sell. But, these candies are not meant to “beanboozle” people into a dare to eat it moment. They are a flavor journey and sometimes that trip needs to get people to expand their horizons.
