Halloween and beer go hand in hand. From spirited parties to post-trick or treat unwinding, many people want that cold, refreshing beverage to sip. This year, Shock Top’s Candy Corn Wheat Ale Craft Beer will be the most talked about seasonal offering. When paired with an epic Spirit Halloween costume, everyone will be the toast of the witching hour.

Shock Top is a popular, approachable wheat beer. Usually served with an orange wedge, the citrusy, subtle hoppy beer is never heavy. It is sessionable and pairs well with a wide array of food choices.

Previously, the beer brand launched a limited edition fall beer. The pretzel infused offering celebrated another fall staple, Oktoberfest. Instead of snacking on the pretzel snack necklace, people got a bready, salty infusion into the glass. It was a great option for all the fall events.

This year, Shock Top’s Candy Corn Wheat Ale Craft Beer is a totally unexpected offering, but one that will take over the beverage conversation. Even if people think that the classic Halloween candy is polarizing, no one will want to be left out of trying this beer.

Speaking about the offerings, Jacob Neilson, Senior Brand Manager at Shock Top said, “Shock Top is known for celebrating bold flavor, spirited gatherings and moments that catch people by surprise, and there’s no better occasion for that than Halloween. Partnering with Spirit – the most iconic name in Halloween – gave us the chance to dream up something hauntingly good that celebrates everything fans love about the season.”

What Can Beer Drinkers Expect from the Candy Corn Wheat Ale?

The idea of pairing beer and candy is not necessarily a new concept. At the same time, infusing candy into the beer is a little different. Unlike coffee, chocolate, or even cherry, candy corn has a distinctive taste and texture.

According to Shock Top, the specialty beer will still have its signature citrus wheat flavors front and center. The color should still retain its orange glow. No one is expecting a tri-colored pour in the glass.

But, a beer does have a visual connection to candy corn. When a poured well, that frothy head on top of the vibrant Shock Top orange can create some similarities.

How the candy corn flavors infuses itself into the beer will be interesting. A touch of sweetness would be nice. As long as there is no change to the mouth feel (candy corn does have a particular texture), the beer should be successful.

At the same time, this beer is about sparking conversation. While pumpkin beers and sours can be a popular choice for Halloween celebrations, this Shock Top offering will be the beer to have in the cooler just because. Everyone will want to try it at least once.

Should it be served with some candy corn, even as a garnish? Maybe not. Personally, a salty pairing would bring out the sweetness. Whether it is some new Chipotle Honey pretzels or peanut butter cups that contrast would be a better option.

Shock Top’s Candy Corn Wheat Ale has a 5% ABV. It is available at various retailers.
