As the original bourbon barrel-aged stout, Goose Island understands that each release celebrates both the history and the innovation of this beer. Just like the bourbon that is rooted in beverage history, these beers tap into memories, nostalgia, and a little whimsy. For the 2026 Goose Island Bourbon County Release, one flavor theme runs through them and beer drinkers are excited to explore its complexities.

Over the years, Goose Island has used its Bourbon County line to celebrate the brewmasters’ creativity. It is more than pushing the boundaries of flavor profiles, aging, and collaborations. Yes, the brand created a unique wood filtration system one year. But, it is more than thinking out of the box.

Every annual release tells a story. The brewmaster’s inspiration behind every bottle relates to a moment in time. Sometimes it is a school lunch frozen dessert or a classic cookie. That starting point is the flavor that sets the tone, builds the base, and connects all drinkers to their own memories.

As Todd Ahsmann, President, Goose Island Beer Co. explained, “In 2026, we’re continuing to push ourselves with this lineup, embracing where we started while ever evolving to push the boundaries of what barrel-aged beer can be. This year we are showcasing the barrels, highlighting for beer lovers exactly what a barrel and its characteristics add to our beer, in every single bottle, across the entire lineup.”

What Flavor Profile Connects the 2026 Goose Island Bourbon County Release?

Ahead of today’s announcement, Goose Island offered a sneak peek of the releases and the flavor profile. Even the names, themselves, allude to the commonality amongst the beers. 2026 is a classic, nostalgic, dessert-centric theme.

Even though the espresso martini trend has started to fade, people love coffee, chocolate, and creaminess in a single sip. The Tiramisu Cask Finish captures that signature combination.

Coffee, chocolate, and vanilla are signature flavors in the iconic stout. In this release, the rum barrels enhance those notes. After finishing in the bourbon barrels, the oaky qualities get a roundness from the rum casks. The sugarcane combined with espresso feels slightly indulgent yet cozy. This beer will be the perfect finish to a deep dish pizza, ravioli, or even a hearty ragu.

The Apple Crisp Stout is another dessert centric option. Described by Goose Island’s Chase Craig as a homage to his favorite dessert, this beer celebrates the warm spices, like cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. One sip should conjure images of a cozy kitchen, tempting aromas, and a warm, gooey dessert.

While the caramelized notes are enticing, it is the toasted oats that make this stout a standout. The slight char adds a roundness and a lingering finish. It is the beer that is perfect sitting by the fireplace, during the first Chicago snowfall.

Which 2026 Bourbon County Beer Will Be the Most Coveted?

While the new bourbon barrel-aged stouts have yet to hit shelves, Goose Island’s announcement builds anticipation for that first sip. Even if a few options are more difficult to procure than others, people will happily open any bottle that they can find. The annual release is just that coveted.

Based on Goose Island’s descriptions, the 2026 Bourbon County Brand Triple Oak Barleywine will be the most talked about and the most coveted. Barleywine is not often a huge topic of conversation. But, changing drinking trends make it a smart choice.

Barleywine tends to have a higher ABV. For people who prefer “occasion” drinking, the more potent potable is that single sipper to last for an evening.

With the 2026 Bourbon County Brand Triple Oak Barleywine, the stout balances the sweet, oaky Angel’s Envy Triple Oak Bourbon with Chinkapin, French & Hungarian oak casks. The layered depth achieved with this release will be sublime. It is the stout to sip slowly and ponder.

2026 Goose Island Bourbon County hits markets on its traditional Black Friday release. Check with retailers for availability and pricing. More information will be available in the upcoming months prior to first sales.
