Whether it is National Ice Cream Day or just another Sunday, the most popular ice cream brand finds its way to more shoppers’ carts. Whether the flavor is classic vanilla or a more sophisticated option, the preferred pint is clear.

Recently, Instacart analyzed ice cream purchases. Even though people are more cost conscious with their food shopping, the little indulgences always find their way into the cart. That little splurge can make the day a little brighter.

According to Instacart, shoppers purchase Häagen-Dazs more than any other ice cream brand. Specifically, Häagen-Dazs appeared in 24% of ice cream orders. It was purchased more frequently than Ben & Jerry’s as well as Breyers.

Even if the store brand is more cost-efficient, people return to the brand names that they have picked time and again. Yes, Kroger might have offered people free ice cream, but that promotion might be just a one-time purchase.

When a brand can deliver the taste, variety, and value that people want, they will purchase again and again. Häagen-Dazs captures that sentiment. People have and will be screaming for more.

Three Most Popular Ice Cream Flavors Rarely Change

While curious combinations, savory ingredients, and food trends get people to step out of their comfort zone, those items are often single purchases. Whether it  is for the image or the hype, it never becomes the always buy.

Including in the Instacart data, the three most popular flavors remain vanilla, chocolate, and cookie dough. Even though other studies show that cookies and cream has surged in popularity, the classics, vanilla and chocolate, continue in their top spots.

The reasoning is fairly simple, versatility. Vanilla can be combined with cookies, candies, and other flavors. Even though it is tasty on its own, the additions create a new experience. It is almost like having multiple flavors sitting in the freezer.

Chocolate will always be a favorite because it feels indulgent. Even with no other mix-ins, it feels like a complete dessert.

Whether it is National Ice Cream Day or any day, there is always room for ice cream. Grab a cone, bowl, or even the whole pint.
