While the classic soda might have used its misunderstood label in an old school campaign, the beverage understands that flavor innovation is vital in today’s competitive landscape. Looking ahead to 2027, Dr Pepper’s next flavor celebrates nostalgia, whimsy, and a taste of the sweet life.

Soda has become more of an indulgence versus a thirst quench. While people bring their refillable water bottles everywhere, hydration is never an issue. But, people look to some beverages as a treat, not just another drink to sip.

Dr Pepper’s recent flavor launches featured fruity infusion to bring excitement to its line-up. For example, the recent coconut infused flavors brought a taste of the tropics to the iconic Texas founded beverage. When a brand can bring together all areas, it proves that its versatility ensures its continued success.

Speaking about the Dr Pepper’s direction for 2027, Jeff Tabor, Chief Customer Officer at Keurig Dr Pepper said, “innovation is what keeps shoppers engaged.” By focusing on “culturally relevant flavors,” those flavors will keep flying off the shelf.

What is the Dr Pepper’s Next Flavor for 2027?

To kick off 2027, the new flavor is Dr Pepper Ice Cream Float. The concept blends the iconic 23 flavors with a “creamy ice cream flavor.” Additionally, it includes caramel and butterscotch notes with warm, comforting vanilla. Those notes add to the sweetness that turns one sip into the ultimate indulgence.

According to the brand, the flavor will be a permanent offering and will hit stores in February 2027. It will be available in both cans as well as 20 oz bottles. Fountain and frozen options will come later in the year.

Given the February 2027 launch, it will be interesting to see if Dr Pepper will offer a National Championship commercial campaign. Given that the beverage brand is the “fansville” choice for college football, it could be a smart opportunity to introduce the flavor to a large audience.

Additionally, the Ice Cream Float drink could make a splash during a Big Game commercial. While everyone focuses on chicken wings and dip, having a sweet, dessert like drink to enjoy post-halftime show can be the treat to toast another great play.

Overall, launching Ice Cream Float in February is a curious choice. After the January resolutions, many people will be thirsty for a treat that does not venture too far into overindulgence.

Lastly, it will be interesting to see if this first flavor launch sets the tone for the other upcoming flavors. Could another dessert inspired choice arrive for summer? Although apple pie seems unlikely but what about a blueberry crumble or an ooey gooey cake?

What do you think of the next Dr Pepper flavor? Will you be stalking the shelf looking for the cans?
