As the countdown to America 250 and Fourth of July quickens, food brands deliver on the red, white, and blue spread. While those colorful treats bring excitement to the table, McDonald’s took a different approach to its latest menu item. When nostalgia intersects with an All-American classic, the dessert, Fried Apple Pie, is an instant winner.

McDonald’s recent menu launches have crossed pop culture moments, like the current World Cup and colorful beverage trends, to value conscious meals. Variety ensures that a wider audience hits the drive-thru.

With the return of Fried Apple Pie, McDonald’s leans into nostalgia and indulgence. With the food world embracing “maxxing” everything, this classic dessert embraces simplicity. A sweet pie filling with a flakey crust satisfies every time.

As Eric Cochran, McDonald’s Owner/Operator explained, “There are certain things that just take you back – and the Fried Apple Pie is one of them. It’s something that people love and remember from growing up. When Ray Kroc was trying to come up with a dessert for McDonald’s, my Grandad, Litton Cochran, suggested a Fried Apple Pie as a classic that people would love. My Grandmom, Jo Cochran, spent months perfecting the recipe. Bringing the Fried Apple Pie back for fans this summer to celebrate America’s 250th just feels right.”

McDonald’s Goes Bigger to Celebrate the Return of Fried Apple Pie

Quiet launches do not make a splash. Today’s food news needs a defining moment. McDonald’s rolled out a huge statement for the return of its Fried Apple Pie and no one is missing it.

McDonald’s Largest Fried Apple Pie debuted in Chicagoland. Standing at a McDonald’s in Joliet, Illinois, the 35-foot “pie” stands just off Route 66. It might not be the world’s biggest ball of yarn or an old school roadside landmark, but it does make a big, bold statement.

Adding a Route 66 reference, McDonald’s makes a strong connection to its All-American roots. Who hasn’t seen the Golden Arches from the road and pulled over for a pitstop? Doesn’t that Diet Coke just hit differently when enjoyed straight from the drive-thru? Food and memories are forever intertwined.

Even for the person who has never had a Fried Apple Pie, they appreciate the classic Americana associated with the dessert. It is simple, yet always delicious. It is the perfect time to bring back that dessert.

Should the Fried Apple Pie become a permanent menu item? No, it should ride off into the sunset for another special appearance. Yes, it is delicious but sometimes a little distance makes that treat taste even better.

Don’t miss the opportunity to try the Fried Apple Pie. It will be gone before you blink.
