As the Seattle Seahawks battle the New England Patriots, the big game requires a substantial food and beverage spread. Since beer is a popular football beverage, these beers are great choices for diehard team fans, football fans and everyone else who appreciates a great brew.
The final game of the NFL season is more than just four quarters of football. From hilarious commercials to copious amounts of food, people turn that Sunday night game into the ultimate party.
Even if Monday is not a holiday, many people choose to imbibe for the big game. Instead of making the host man the bar for the whole event, beer is often an easy beverage choice. Whether paired with chicken wings, pizza or a spread of chips and dips, brews are on tap for the occasion.
Choosing the right beer for a gathering does not have to be difficult. From the classic Bud Light with its NFL themed cans to the popular Michelob Ultra, the iconic brands will fill the cooler and the television screen. Yes, those big game commercials can be a simple way to get some beer inspiration. But, for the person who prefers to let the Budweiser Clydesdale be on the screen and not in the fridge, there are plenty of other beers to serve.
5 Big Game Beers that Get Cheers All Around
Garage Beer
Even though a “Kelce” is not playing in the big game, Garage Beer is a great option for football watching. The easy drinking beer is quite sessionable and goes with almost any food. It is unpretentious. Whether you drink one or shotgun a six pack, the beer goes down smooth.
Garage Beer offered a unique take on its big game ad. Although the ad on their socials has people shaking their heads, one big winner emerged. If you Doug, the miniature horse, the beer brand is giving away a Day with Doug. More information can be found on their channels.
Elysian Brewing
The iconic Seattle brewery is always a smart choice. From its infamous Great Pumpkin Beer Fest to its versions of Space Dust, there is a beer for any and every occasion.
The longtime support of the Seatle Seahawks, an Elysian Brewing beer is a perfect choice for this year’s big game party. Personally, I would recommend the classic Space Dust. The IPA does have a higher ABV, around 8.2%, but it is easy drinking. It works with chicken wings, pizza and even seafood.
Since non-alcoholic options are always a good choice, Elysian offers Easy Dust. Its NA beer captures that hoppy flavor people expect but it does not have the potent ABV.
Samuel Adams
As the brand’s many commercials convey, your friend from Boston knows a few things about beer. Samuel Adams, the classic Boston lager, is always a crowd pleaser.
While it is a little late in the season to enjoy some of its winter lager, there might be a few still available. If now, consider the new Cherry Bomb. The brand’s first high ABV beer packs a punch but has a unique flavor that will keep beer drinkers intrigued.
And, if the Patriots hoist the Lombardi trophy, consider pouring a glass of Utopias. That special, limited release is always a victorious choice.
Allagash Brewing
New Englanders have long celebrated Allagash Brewing. Allagash White is considered the most awarded wheat beer in the world. When that beer is on tap, it is a must order.
For at home gatherings, the Year-Round Variety Pack is a crowd-pleaser. In addition to the Allagash White, the 12-can pack features Allagash Hazy IPA and Allagash Tripel.
Beer fans know that Allagash Tripel is a special beer. While it has been a fan favorite for over 20 years, it was not available in cans. This inclusion makes the variety pack a must buy.
Sierra Nevada
Since this year’s big game is played in Levi’s Stadium, a California beer is a smart choice. Considered the beer that sparked the West Coast IPA movement, Sierra Nevada continues to delight beer drinkers.
The sessionable IPA pairs with classic football fare as well as fresh seafood. And, if there is any beer leftover, it adds depth to chili, short ribs or even a shepherd’s pie.
These big game beers are just a few suggestions. What will you be drinking on Sunday?
