Chicken continues to be a huge draw on quick service menus. While the chicken sandwich wars have died down, guests are particular about those protein-packed poultry choices. Even those bite-sized nuggets need to deliver big flavor in every bite.
Burger King heard from its guests that its nuggets needed a serious upgrade. In the competitive quick service restaurant market, a brand cannot afford for any menu item to be labeled as “disappointing.” It was time for a major flavor upgrade.
As Chef Amy Alarcon, Head Chef, Burger King U.S. & Canada explained, “Our culinary team evaluated every element of the experience, from the chicken and breading to the sauces that bring it all together. Throughout the process, we invited real Guests – including some of our toughest critics, kids – to test and refine the recipe, helping us create a nugget we believe delivers the quality, taste and experience that they have been asking for.”
BK Chicken Nuggets Are Far from Just Another Juvenile Meal
Part of the brand’s listening program, the new chicken nugget recipe is designed to create the juiciest, most flavorful meal to delight guests. With just one bite, everyone will taste the difference.
The 100% white meat chicken started with a more flavorful marinade. Not only does that choice make for a boost the taste, it creates a juicier bite. It adds to the eating satisfaction.
Additionally, BK changed the breading. The coating is crispier. With a perfect golden brown, it showcases the contrast between the white meat chicken and the coating.
Served in a new box, the packaging helps to keep the chicken nuggets crispy. Additionally, older guests appreciate the box over just another bag. It is a subtle change, but one with a big impact.
Special Savory Sauce Needs to be a Permanent Menu Item
While other quick service restaurants smother their nuggets and make them soggy, Burger King understands that dipping and drizzling is a better option. Its new and upgraded sauces enhance the overall flavor experience.
The new Special Savory Sauce joins revamped Honey Mustard, Buffalo, and Sweet and Sour sauces. Each option makes the chicken taste even better.
The new, limited-time sauce combines BBQ seasoning, ketchup, garlic, onion and black pepper. The creamy sauce is slightly spicy but not overly fiery. The creaminess tempers the heat.
Additionally, the viscosity makes it a delicious dipping sauce. It adheres to the chicken nuggets and keeps the dreaded drips away. From a little taste to a whole bite, the sauce is a winner.
Although this new sauce is just a limited time offering, BK will be listening to guests’ feedback. It could be time to shout to the rooftops about its deliciousness. Hopefully, it will become a permanent menu item. Just think about the sauce on a Whopper.
