Birthday celebrations have many food traditions. Cake and ice cream bring people to the table cheering. For its 105th birthday Betty Crocker takes that iconic pairing in a different direction. Hungry for that satisfying scoop?
Food brands understand that people crave more than just another bite. Yes, a great dish satiates a hunger, but it needs to feel satisfying. That concept creates connection, which brings people back to the table.
Betty Crocker has long been part of people’s baking traditions. Whether it is the homemade cupcakes that were a part of school birthday parties or the favorite cake served every holiday, that red box brings smiles to the kitchen.
This year to mark the 105th birthday, Betty Crocker takes the classic cake and ice cream pairing in a different direction. It is time to combine the scoop and the slice into a single dessert.
For an entire month, Better Crocker and the Museum of Ice Cream will collaborate on a special event. From a unique flavor to engaging experiences, there is something for everyone.
Speaking about the collaboration, Luke Niethammer, Business Unit Director for Betty Crocker at General Mills said, “Birthdays have always been an important part of Betty Crocker, so celebrating 105 years gives us a unique opportunity to create a birthday experience worthy of the occasion. We see consumers reaching for Betty Crocker when we lean into shareable moments and relevant collaborations. Partnering with MUSEUM OF ICE CREAM for Betty’s birthday in a fun, unexpected way gives fans something new to enjoy.

How to get a taste of the Betty Crocker and Museum of Ice Cream Collab
During all of October, the Museum of Ice Cream will celebrate Betty Crocker. At each U.S. location, the museum will serve Betty’s Birthday Cake Ice Cream. The exclusive dessert combines the flavors of Betty Crocker Yellow Cake Mix and Chocolate Frosting.
Mixed into the ice cream, tender yellow cake pieces and fudge swirls infuse every bite with sweetness. It is like the perfectly constructed bite that you remember from a birthday party. There is just enough creaminess with little treasures of cake along the way.
Although this idea is nice, it would have been even better to have an ice cream cake. That concept could have highlighted the classic cake mix. The idea could have showed some dessert innovation. What if the cake slices were ice cream and the “frosting” was cake. Sometimes thinking a little more outside of the box gets people engaged.
Additionally, Betty Crocker could benefit from an ice cream flavored cake. While people love the classic flavors, this concept could have taken over everyone’s birthday celebrations. Who needs confetti cake when you have ice cream cake?
With a brand that has stood the test of time, Betty Crocker knows how to manage trends and favorites. This partnership with the Museum of Ice Cream will be successful. More importantly, it taps into that classic food pairing that makes all the memories come flooding back.
