Before summer began, WhistlePig launched two specialty spirits in honor of America 250. Over the years, the Vermont based distiller has used special occasions to push the liquor envelope. Whether it was sun aging, wind tunnels, or even unique water filtration, the liquor brand appreciates that innovation with a little fun always delivers a superb product.

While many liquor brands offer their take on bourbon WhistlePig has focused on rye. With its underlying spice, rye has complexity. The long, storied history makes rye a smart choice for America 250 celebrations.

This summer, WhistlePig added Rye, White & Blue PiggyBank and Declaration Wheat Whiskey. The latter whiskey is more approachable for a wider audience. A more adaptable 86 proof whiskey, wheat forward spirit is smooth, well-balanced, and an easy sipper. In turn, the Rye, White & Blue is bigger, bolder at 110 proof. Like the fireworks in the sky, one sip packs a memorable punch.

According to WhistlePig CEO Alex Roberts, “Rye isn’t just part of American whiskey history – it is American whiskey history. Before bourbon, there was Rye. Rye was a common grain in early American whiskey production and it defined how this country drank. As America turns 250, we’re raising a glass to the original.” 

Raise a Toast to WhistlePig All-American Cocktails

In honor of the two specialty offerings for America 250, WhistlePig added two specialty cocktails. These options balance the underlying rye spice with some juicy, sweet fruit flavors.

Both fruits, apple and peach, are summertime classics. These cocktails pair well with a heaping barbecue plate or a slice of homemade pie.

Plus, the cocktails are easy sippers. Although no one should over indulge on a hot summer day, enjoying more than one cocktail over an lingering evening is quite enjoyable.

Peach N’ Ginger Mule

Ingredients:

  • 2 . oz Small Batch Rye Aged 10 Years (Or PiggyBack 100% Rye)
  • 5 oz Ginger Beer
  • .25 oz French Peach Liqueur
  • .25 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • (Optional) 1 dash Peach Bitters for extra peach kick
  • Garnish: Peach Slice, Rosemary Spring, Lemon Twist

Method:

  • Add all ingredients to a mule glass over fresh ice and stir. Top with ginger beers. Garnish with peach slice, lemon twist and rosemary sprig.

Apple Highball

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Declaration Wheat Whiskey
  • 3 oz Sparkling Apple Cider
  • 3 oz Club Soda
  • 2 dashes Bitters

Method:

  • Add all ingredients to a highball glass with ice and stir. Garnish with a dehydrated apple and lemon twist.
