While many theater enthusiasts would love to rub elbows with the theater’s best and brightest, it might be too late to snag a seat to the annual event. Luckily, Dewar’s shared the recipes for its signature Tony Awards cocktails.
Put on that little black dress, shake up a cocktail and toast to the theater’s long-lasting legacy.
Specialty Dewar’s Cocktails for the 79th Tony Awards
A few celebrated mixologists lent their talents to creating these specialty Dewar’s cocktails. Without overshadowing the signature peaty notes from the classic whisky, these beverages are approachable to a wide audience. They are rooted in the familiar yet feel fresh. Just like Broadway’s hottest revival, everyone appreciates the new take on a classic.
The Stage Door Canteen
Created by Matthew Rankin of Winnies Jazz Club in New York City, this cocktail highlights Dewar’s Double Double 21 Year Old Oloroso Finish. Theater lovers know that the stage door is where people can get a glimpse of their favorite star. In that brief glimpse, it holds the sweetness of a perfect high C and the complexity of a three-hour show.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Dewar’s 21 Year Old Oloroso
- 0.75 Rocky’s Botanical
- 0.75 oz Lemon Juice
- 1oz Honey/Lemongrass Syrup
- Garnish: Dehydrated Lemon

- Shake and double strain.
The Curtain Call
Created by Damiano Coren of Casa Lever in New York City, this cocktail highlights classic Italian flavors with a nod to classic combination. The balance of slightly bitter with slight sweetness makes drinkers long for another sip. As the name suggests, just like the stage curtain call, this cocktail keeps everyone applauding.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Dewar’s 21 Year Old Oloroso
- 0.25 oz Kirsch 0.25 oz Lemon Juice
- 0.25 oz Simple Syrup
- 1 oz Blood Orange Puree
- 0.5 oz Noyaux 5 Dashes Fee Foam
- Garnish: Lemon peel, raspberry, blackberry

The 21st Measure
For non-theater nerds, the 21st measure can refer to a change in tempo, mood, or dramatic emphasis. Nada Nedoba, Baccarat Hotel in New York City, uses the reference to highlight flavor highs and lows. At one point this cocktail is sweet, then bitter and then rounded. It is unexpected and familiar which intrigues the drinker every time.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Dewar’s 21 Year Old Oloroso
- 0.25 oz Benedictine
- 0.25 oz Demerara
- 4 Dashes Chocolate Mole Bitters
- 3 Dashes Orange Bitters
- Garnish: Thyme Sprig
