Convenient and protein-packed are simple ways to categorize the new Subway Fit Fresh subs. While those broad descriptions entice people to make that first order, an unexpected flavorful ingredient amplifies the experience. It has made one sub my new favorite order.
Over the years, Subway has evolved its menu to adapt to food trends. From its daily value meal specials to pop culture tie-ins, the quick service restaurant understands that creative menu innovation keeps fans loyal and captivates new guests.
Four Subway Subs with Very Different Flavors
The Subway Fit Fresh Menu features four options. They are Grilled Chicken & Avocado, Ham & Turkey Stacker, Seasoned Steak & Avocado and Turkey & Ranch Delite.
While they are all stacked with protein, each one is different. From the warm, toasted Philly Cheesesteak to the classic Ham and Turkey Stacker, the variety ensures Subway guests do not get bored with the Fit Fresh Menu.
Although prices will vary depending on location, these subs were created to bring balanced nutrition with variety and value. It is a food proposition that many guests appreciate.
Subway’s Fresh Take on Protein
When Subway announced this Fit Fresh Menu, it highlighted that each sub had at least 25 g of protein. While the stacked grams leaned into the current food trends, each sub is more than a pile of meat. That concept is vital to its success.
Each Fit Fresh sub has been carefully crafted to have balanced flavor. Subway achieved this aspect by using sauces. Specifically, Baja Chipotle and Peppercorn Ranch are fan favorite sauces.
For example, the turkey and ranch sub features Peppercorn Ranch. The slightly spicy condiment has just enough heat to make every bite bold, but the sauce does not overpower the vegetables. The tangy onions and sweet tomatoes are never lost in the background.
Subway’s Fit Fresh Menu is a protein-packed meal, but it is nothing with its sauces. Do not ask for the sauce on the side.
Vegetables Enhance the Fit Fresh Flavor
While the sauces balance the hearty protein, it is the vegetables that make these subs satisfying. Subway succeeded in creating a substantial bite without making a calorie bomb or making the meal feel too heavy. The vegetable choice was key.
The crunchy, bright cucumbers stand out on the Grilled Chicken and Avocado as well as the Ham and Turkey Stacker. That textural component adds complexity to every bite. More importantly, cucumber’s freshness helps the sub from feeling too heavy.
Also, the spinach is a smart addition. While shredded lettuce is standard, it can lack flavor. Spinach not only amplifies the nutritional content but also brings a bitter note. It is another way for the dish to avoid being heavy.
One Fit Fresh Sub Rises to the Top
While all four subs are tasty, one earned my top choice. The Grilled Chicken and Avocado was my favorite.
This sub is the complete package because it is well balanced. The Baja Chipotle sauce adds a subtle spice, but there is enough heat to be present in every bite.
The smashed avocado and chicken are a classic combination. But, the additional vegetables add a needed crunch to break up the textural similarities.
I would prefer to eliminate the red onion, since they tend to be pungent. The minimal amount was not overwhelming. The Baja Chipotle sauce helped to temper the onion flavor.
Overall, Grilled Chicken and Avocado sub is my repeat order. The value combined with the ingredients and nutritional aspect make it hands down a winner.
